Ham Chau Rice is a high-quality, short-grain rice variety that is popular in Vietnam, particularly grown in the provinces of the Mekong Delta. It is characterized by its short, white grains that are bloated, dry, and spongy with no aromatic quality. This rice is ideal for restaurants specializing in fried rice, pancakes, and rolls.
2. Description
- Appearance: Medium-thin shape with a translucent white color.
- Grain Quality: Ham Chau rice is produced from short-term rice varieties and can be grown in various soil types. The grains are white, large, and long. When cooked, the rice expands and becomes more spongy.
- Texture After Cooking: The rice is hard and dry, making it suitable as an ingredient for noodles.
- Growing Time: Approximately 90 days per crop.
- Yield: Winter-Spring crop: 6-8 tons/ha Summer-Autumn crop: 5-6 tons/ha.
- Growing Areas: Bac Lieu, Vinh Long, and other provinces in the Mekong Delta.
