OP BLACK TEA – WHOLE-LEAF ORTHODOX TEA FOR LOOSE-LEAF PACKS
OP Black Tea is a whole-leaf orthodox black tea with long, wiry and lightly curled leaves. It produces a golden-red to amber cup with a malty body, refreshing aroma and smooth citrus finish. The grade is suitable for loose-leaf tea packs, pyramid tea bags and as a blending base for commercial tea products.
1. OP Black Tea For Loose-Leaf Tea Applications
OP, short for Orange Pekoe, is a classic whole-leaf grade of orthodox black tea. The leaves are black, lightly curled and relatively even in size, with a leaf length of approximately 8–15 mm.
The tea is rolled without cutting at factories in Phu Tho and Yen Bai, Vietnam. Compared with OPA, OP has a more tightly twisted leaf structure and can provide a fuller cup profile while allowing approximately 17 tons of standard bulk packing to be loaded into a 40HC container.
OP Black Tea is primarily used for loose-leaf tea packs, including tins, boxes and pouches. It is also suitable for pyramid and premium tea bags where the leaf remains visible during brewing.

2. OP Black Tea Characteristics And Flavor Profile
The dry leaf has a black appearance with a light curl and relatively even size. When brewed, the liquor develops a reddish-gold color with orange tones.
✿ Key characteristics:
- Leaf size: 8–15 mm
- Appearance: Black, lightly curled leaf of even size
- Liquor: Golden reddish color with an orange tint
- Aroma: Fresh and lightly floral
- Flavor: Strong, malty taste
- Finish: Smooth and long-lasting citrus notes
- Moisture: Maximum 7%
The first impression is strong and malty, followed by a smooth citrus finish. The tea can also take a small amount of milk, while its citrus character is more apparent when served plain.
3. OP Black Tea For Pyramid Bags And Blending
- OP Black Tea provides a whole-leaf format for applications where leaf appearance and cup character are important.
- For pyramid and large-format tea bags, the leaf structure remains visible during brewing. This makes OP suitable for tea products designed to present a more recognizable whole-leaf appearance.
- As a blending base, OP contributes body and a brisk, malty character to formulations such as breakfast tea, Earl Grey and chai blends.
- The grade is mainly shipped to CIS markets, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Middle East, where loose black tea is commonly consumed.
