Houjicha is a distinctive roasted green tea from Japan. It is a traditional tea widely used in Japanese culinary culture, especially in Kyoto—where the first batches of Houjicha were produced in the 1920s.
Like matcha, Houjicha is made from 100% green tea following a standardized production process. However, to achieve its characteristic brown color, the tea leaves undergo deep roasting at 200°C. This roasting process significantly reduces the tannin and caffeine content in green tea, resulting in a milder flavor with less bitterness and astringency. It does not cause insomnia and is suitable for consumption in the afternoon and evening, making it a popular daily beverage among the elderly, children, and caffeine-sensitive individuals in Japan.

Beverage Preparation
Quick & easy method:
- Mix 1 teaspoon of tea powder (1.5–2g) with 10ml of condensed milk and stir well. Add 150ml of hot water, stir, and enjoy.
- For iced drinks, add 50ml of fresh milk and shake with ice.
Perfect Houjicha Latte:
- 4g tea powder + 100–120ml fresh milk + 25–30ml sugar syrup
Baking, Confectionery & Ice Cream
- Mix 1%–1.5% Houjicha powder into the ingredient mixture for baked goods, confectionery, or ice cream.
STORAGE
- Store in a dry, cool place. Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures.
