NITROGEN
General Properties:
Nitrogen (N₂) under normal conditions is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and relatively inert gas that exists in diatomic molecular form (N₂), commonly known as atmospheric nitrogen. Nitrogen makes up about 78% of the Earths atmosphere and is a fundamental component of all living organisms. It forms many important compounds such as amino acids, ammonia, nitric acid, and cyanides.
Pure nitrogen is a colorless molecular gas and is chemically non-reactive at room temperature. It liquefies at 77 K (–196°C) under atmospheric pressure and freezes at 63 K (–210°C). Liquid nitrogen is a widely used refrigerant.
Gaseous Nitrogen
