Standard Modulus Carbon Fiber
Standard modulus carbon fiber is a highly durable material renowned for its exceptional manufacturing properties, making it ideal for filament winding, prepreg processes, and fiber applications. Its versatility has enabled widespread use across a range of industries, including high-pressure vessels, cable cores, general manufacturing, civil engineering, and construction.
Introducing TANSOME® – Korea’s First High-Performance Carbon Fiber
TANSOME® represents a breakthrough in material science as the first high-performance carbon fiber developed in South Korea. The name "TANSOME" combines the concept of "tanning" — referencing the carbonization phase in carbon fiber production — with "something special," highlighting its unique value proposition.
This innovative fiber is 75% lighter and 10 times stronger than steel, offering a superior strength-to-weight ratio that contributes significantly to energy efficiency by reducing overall weight. As a result, global demand for carbon fiber is increasing at a rate of over 10% annually.
A Key Material for Energy Efficiency and Lightweight Solutions
Comprising more than 92% carbon, carbon fiber is emerging as a critical material for reducing weight in products due to growing global emphasis on energy efficiency. With a density just one-quarter that of steel and strength up to 10 times greater, it is ideal for demanding applications.
Hyosung’s TANSOME® carbon fiber lineup includes:
- TANSOME® Standard Modulus: Tensile strength of 5.5 GPa and tensile modulus over 250 GPa.
- TANSOME® Intermediate Modulus: Tensile strength of 5.5 GPa and tensile modulus over 290 GPa.
These grades represent more than 70% of total global carbon fiber demand and are widely used as core materials in various sectors, including aerospace, high-performance industries, and sports & leisure. To meet growing global demand, currently increasing by over 12% annually, Hyosung plans to expand its annual production capacity beyond the current 2,000 tons and aims to become a global leader in carbon fiber manufacturing by 2025.
