Square Hydraulic Cylinder

A square hydraulic cylinder (also known as a box-style hydraulic cylinder) is a type of hydraulic actuator with a square-shaped body instead of the traditional round design. Its primary function is to generate pushing or pulling force through hydraulic pressure, enabling movement, lifting, pressing, holding, or clamping of objects.

Structure & Components

1. Cylinder Barrel
• Square or rectangular in shape.
• Made of high-strength steel or durable alloy.
• Contains hydraulic fluid and guides piston movement.

2. End Caps (Front & Rear)
• Attached to both ends of the barrel.
• Maintain internal pressure and secure internal components.
• Can be removable for maintenance.

3. Piston & Piston Rod
• Piston: Moves back and forth inside the barrel, dividing it into two chambers (extending and retracting sides).
• Piston Rod: Connects to the piston and transmits force externally.

4. Seals
• Includes rod seals, piston seals, wipers, and more.
• Prevents oil leaks, maintains pressure, and blocks contaminants.

 

5. Hydraulic Ports
• At least two ports for hydraulic fluid intake and return (one for each chamber).
• Fitted with threaded or flanged connections for hose/pipe attachment.

6. Tie Rods or Bolts
• Secures the end caps to the barrel, ensuring stability under high pressure.

7. Mounting & Couplings
• Used to attach the cylinder to machinery or frames.
• Options include base mounts, pivot pins, trunnion mounts, etc., depending on the application.
