- White Star Line, one of the leaders, is determined to focus on size and elegance rather than pure speed. In 1907, White Star Line executives J. Bruce Ismay and Lord James Pirrie, a partner of Harland And Wolff (White Star Lines shipbuilding company since its inception in 1869) came up with three steamboats.
