1. Introduction to MSC Oscar

- MSC Oscar, along with MSC Zoe and MSC Oliver, is the largest container ship in the world (as of August 2015). Set on January 8, 2015, the MSC Oscar assumed the title of "largest container ship" from the CSCL Globe inaugurated in November 2014. MSC Oscar took his name from the son of Diego Aponte, chairman and chief executive officer of the Mediterranean Transport Company (MSC).

- MSC Oscar was built by Daewoo in Korea for $ 140 million. The ship was first planned for 18,400 TEUs. After completion of construction, the capacity is 19,224 TEU, including the capacity of 1,800 reefer containers.

- Because the ships tonnage weighs only 197,362 DWT, it can only fully load containers if each container has an average weight of less than 10.2 tons. With an average container weighing 14 tons, the capacity is reduced to about 14,000 TEUs.
