1. Understanding pine wood
The Pine family, also known as softwood, is found across most regions of the Northern Hemisphere. There are over 100 species of Pine worldwide. Pine trees can grow from 25 to 40 meters tall depending on habitat conditions. In mature forests, trees generally reach 150-200 years old, although many can live up to 600 years. In most cases, lifespan is reduced to around 100-160 years.
Depending on geographical diversity and climate, Pine species may thrive differently across regions.
Pine sapwood ranges from pale yellow to light white, while the heartwood has a light yellow to reddish-brown tone. Annual growth rings vary between 1-10 mm. Pine harvested in summer tends to have darker colors compared to spring wood, and the growth rings are clearly visible. Depending on the cutting direction, Pine wood exhibits either straight striped grain (radial cut) or wavy grain (tangential cut).
