Domestic road transport services:

Advantages

Transit time is fast, requiring only about 2 to 3 days, with a fleet of drivers who consistently meet schedules and flexibly accommodate the consignor’s requirements.

Disadvantages

Road transport generally carries higher transportation costs. Each truck type has its own fixed loading capacity compared with railway or sea freight services.

Domestic railway transport services:

Advantages

• Transit time: Railway transport operates on dedicated routes, stopping only at designated major stations, ensuring delivery time and minimizing disruptions.
  

• Cost efficiency: For container railway shipping, most cargo is consolidated at the station before being loaded into containers or onto the train, making costs more economical than shipping cargo to ports for vessel loading.
  

• Risk mitigation: The risk of accidents is significantly lower due to dedicated rail lines and cargo being sheltered from environmental and weather impacts.

Disadvantages

• As railway transport follows fixed routes and scheduled timetables, consignors cannot modify or adjust delivery destinations.
  

• Transported cargo types are limited, typically dry goods, minerals, etc.
  

• Trains operate on fixed schedules with short station dwell times, restricting loading/unloading activities. Domestic rail transport is particularly unsuitable for small–volume shipments or consolidated cargo.

Domestic sea freight services:

Advantages

• Low transportation cost.
  

• No discrimination between commodity types.
  

• Lower risk compared with road transport.
  

• Large carrying capacity suitable for heavy and super-heavy cargo.

Disadvantages

• Highly dependent on weather and natural conditions such as storms and heavy rains. This is the most significant drawback of sea transport, whether domestic or international—especially during the stormy season in Vietnam.
  

• Sea freight is not suitable for cargo requiring expedited delivery.
