1. What’s a Cascade Magnets?

Cascade magnets - also called magnetic humps or hump magnets - filter ferrous contaminants from 0.5 to 50 mm from free falling coarse product flows, and are cleaned automatically. The robust cascade shaped housing forces the product to closely pass 3 plate magnets. Because these are placed outside the product channel, the pipe channel is unobstructed. In this way, high capacities can be processed, and a high separation efficiency is achieved.

2. Operating Principle 

The robust housing has 3 cascade stages by default. Each stage has a plate magnet against the outside of the housing. These plate magnets have a powerful and deep magnetic field, that extracts the ferrous particles out of the product flow. They retain those ferrous particles until they are cleaned. The last magnet is an extra strong neodymium version to obtain an even better separation efficiency. 

How does the cleaning / iron discharging work? 

With the cascade magnets, you must stop the product flow in order to clean the magnets from filtered ferrous particles. 

3. Applications 

Cascade magnets filter ferrous contaminants - such as iron and steel - out of granulates, fibres and coarser product flows in high capacity free-fall pipelines. They are often used in the bulk, animal feed, plastics, ceramic and recycling industries, among others. 

4. Types of Cascade Magnets 

► Manual cleaning Cascade Magnets 

The zig-zag magnetic separator operates based on the principle of free-flowing material combined with a strong magnetic field. The material falls through a zig-zag channel where neodymium magnetic plates are alternately positioned. As the material flow changes direction repeatedly, iron particles are attracted and held on the surface of the magnetic plates, while clean material continues downward. Thanks to the zig-zag design, the flow is evenly distributed, improving separation efficiency and reducing the risk of clogging. For cleaning, the operator simply removes the magnetic plates to quickly and safely discharge the captured ferrous contaminants.

► Quick cleaning Cascade Magnets 

The material falls in a zig-zag path through alternately arranged neodymium magnetic plates inside the pipeline. These plates consist of two stainless steel layers and act as magnetic doors connected to the zig-zag duct. As the material continuously changes direction, ferrous particles are attracted and held on the surface of the magnetic plates, while the clean material continues downward. The zig-zag design ensures an even flow distribution, enhances iron separation efficiency, and reduces the risk of clogging. For cleaning, the operator simply opens the magnetic doors and separates the magnet from its stainless-steel cover, allowing the iron particles to fall off easily.

► Automatic cleaning Cascade Magnets 

The material falls in a zig-zag path through alternately arranged neodymium magnetic plates inside the pipeline. As the material flow continuously changes direction, ferrous particles are attracted and retained on the surface of the magnetic plates, while the clean material continues downward. For cleaning, the material flow is stopped, and pneumatic cylinders push the magnetic plates out of the pipeline, allowing the collected iron particles to fall into the discharge hopper below.
