Cyanuric acid is a valuable compound commonly used in pool water treatment to stabilize chlorine levels and prevent degradation from sunlight. Its chlorinated derivatives are also effective disinfectants in various applications.

 

 

Cyanuric acid is a cyclic trimer of cyanuric acid (HOCN), existing in two tautomeric forms (triol and tri-keto) that can easily interconvert. When combined with melamine, cyanuric acid forms melamine cyanurate, an insoluble compound in water. In solution, the triol tautomer predominates and exhibits phenolic properties.

 

 

 

Cyanuric acid has several practical applications, including:
