1. What is Glassine paper ?

⧆ Glassine (or cellophane, insulated paper, base paper, liner paper, silicone-coated paper, oil paper, wax paper) is a thin, flat and smooth paper, resistant to water, air and grease.

⧆ This type of paper is opaque white or dyed in many different colors. There are two types of cellophane: clear cellophane and matte cellophane.

2. How to produce Glassine paper:

⧆  Cellophane is not made from glass or plastic , but from a type of pure fiber. That type of pure fiber contains cellulose, a basic substance of cells.

⧆  First, people use sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to treat cellulose, then continue to use sulfuric carbon (Ca2SO4) to treat it. After allowing them to undergo a series of chemical and physical changes, continuing to dissolve the resulting substance in sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution will result in a rubber-like solution, Call it sticky mucus.

⧆  Pour this sticky solution into the rare acid through a very small gap, taking advantage of the reaction with the rare acid to remove the NaOH in the sticky liquid and then create a new cellulose substance. At this time, the properties of cellulose have completely changed, becoming a transparent film, called cellophane.
